From the Mat to Life: How Yoga Enhances Overall Wellness

There are many special things about yoga practice. But before telling any benefits, it should be known what is the definition of health or fitness for you. Because yoga doesn’t work in just one layer or one dimension. Have you ever wondered if there is an education system that can completely develop our brain? As it is often seen that science or commerce students are knowledgeable about things related to their field. It’s like you’ve been put in a big box and there’s a little torch next to you. And you roam everywhere with this torch; only the place where it shines gets light and the rest of the room is dark.

Is there any such system that can illuminate the entire room simultaneously? There are many practices in yoga that lead you to complete knowledge or illumination. By practicing Yogic Kriya, you start waking up from within and the room in which you are lighting a little bit from a torch starts lighting up the entire room. But the condition is that what is your purpose of doing this. Do you practice yoga only for physical fitness and then for physical diseases?

However, if we talk only about health, then yoga and ayurvedic science says that there are five pranas inside our body. And our body is made up of five Mahabhutas, Sapta Dhatu and tridosha. The effect of asana is very deep on our body.

ADDRESSING PHYSICAL HEALTH ISSUES WITH ASANAS:

These affect not only the muscles but also the organ level. Whenever we hold any asana for a long time, the blood flow to that place increases significantly and due to this, old or dead cells are washed out and new cells develop. And then when new cells arrive, that organ starts working properly. But the most important thing is that your breath should keep flowing continuously during the asana. Especially when you do abdominal breathing, our vagus nerves are stimulated.

ADDRESSING PHYSICAL HEALTH ISSUES WITH PRANAYAMA:

Just as asanas work on muscles and organ level, similarly pranayam works on body cells and vital energy. There is water and fire element in our body. When we inhale, air element enters into our body and by mixing these elements, electricity is developed. This electricity is divided into five parts in our body and each part has different functions. We call this Panch prana. Example if someone has problem of constipation then the person is not getting electricity in his apan prana, (that is below the navel, large intestine, genital and anus). By practicing asanas and pranayama, prana energy is transferred to the area where there is a problem.

During asana and pranayam, deep and long breaths are taken and then the electricity spreads in our whole body, and it gets highly charged due to which we feel energetic after yoga practice. And it has direct effect on our brain also in which human neurons are also stimulated. After pranayam, most of the major brain problems also seem to be better (like depression, mood swings, insomnia, anxiety, fear etc.)

OVERALL WELL BEING:

The vagus nerves are part of our body’s nervous system. They play important roles in involuntary sensory and motor functions, including digestion, hear rate, blood pressure, immune system response, mood, muscles and saliva production. Yoga is not just Asana, pranayam or meditation. Asana, pranayam or meditation are just one way to bring transformation in yourself. Whatever exercise you do, if that exercise increases your inner mental peace, relaxation and vital energy and leads you on the spiritual path then it is called Yoga for you.
